Ectopic Pregnancy when does it occur and why?

Tubal pregnancy can result when eggs that are fertilized are implanted outside the uterus. 1 in every 50 pregnancies is an ectopic pregnancy. In a regular pregnancy, an egg is fertilized inside the fallopian tube and continues on its way to the uterus where it becomes attached and grows into a baby. Several causes of an ectopic pregnancy occurs exist today. This kind of pregnancy most often results when the fallopian tubes are partially blocked.

In some cases, the fertilized egg will go through the uterus and become stuck to the cervix or the abdominal wall. Woman can have a common pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy simultaneously in very rare circumstances. If the egg does not attach within the uterus, it is always known as an ectopic pregnancy.

Where an ectopic pregnancy results, the pregnancy will have to be terminated. Permanent damage to the fallopian tube can result where a pregnancy of this kind is not terminated early enough. When a pregnancy is in the early phase, it can be terminated with the drug methotrexate. In circumstances where the pregnancy is actually in the later stages, surgery is needed to repair damage and terminate the pregnancy.

Women who have had a tubal ligation and still get pregnant are the most likely to experience an ectopic pregnancy. Other causes can include taking fertility treatments, having had surgery on the fallopian tubes in the past, abdominal surgeries, removal of ovarian cysts, and use of an IUD as a contraceptive.

Surprisingly, women that have a tubal pregnancy are 80%-90% likely to experience a normal pregnancy afterwards. Physicians tend to closely watch subsequent pregnancies that occur after a tubal pregnancy.

An ectopic pregnancy is normally be seen around six to seven weeks into a pregnancy. This is often the same time as the signs of pregnancy are usually noted. Home pregnancy tests, in some cases, may not actually show a positive result when a tubal pregnancy occurs. This means that complications sometimes make women aware of an ectopic pregnancy.

Pain in the abdomen, combined with general tenderness are usually the first signs of trouble. The pain is usually more to one side than the other, but not easily pinpointed to one specific area. Bleeding in the vaginal section and pain when going to the bathroom or coughing are other common symptoms. If the pain moves to the shoulder area, the tube may have ruptured.

Unfortunately, tubal pregnancies need to be terminated in order to save the mother to be. A high number of people are morally against terminations. In these cases, the choice is simple. Lose both or save the mother. You should probably consult a clinical therapist or senior church member to discuss your situation and emotions whilst coming to terms with the necessity to go against one’s upbringing.
